YOUR DATA, EXPLAINED
Privacy Policy
kikuru processes audio and subtitles on your device. This policy explains app data and information handled when you visit this website.
Last updated:
1. Scope
This policy applies to the kikuru app and this website. The privacy policies of Apple, file providers, and the website hosting provider also apply to information those services handle.
2. Data stored on your device
The app stores copies of imported audio, subtitles and text edits, bookmarks and notes, playback positions, folders and playback order, and app preferences on your device. It uses this data for playback, subtitle display, organization, and restoring your previous settings and position.
No account is required. The operator does not provide an app backend or a device sync service. The app does not send this data to an operator-owned server.
3. On-device speech recognition
Automatic subtitles use Apple's on-device speech recognition on supported operating systems, devices, and languages. Recognition processes an audio file you select; the app does not record from the microphone. It does not upload audio to a recognition server or switch to cloud recognition when on-device recognition is unavailable.
If a required language model is missing, downloading it from Apple uses a network connection. Apple's handling of information associated with that download is subject to its policies. Generated subtitles may contain errors; you can review and edit them.
Language models are managed by the operating system, so deleting kikuru does not necessarily remove them from your device.
4. Files and network access
The app uses the operating system's file picker and copies the files you select into its storage. Retrieving files from a provider such as iCloud Drive may use that provider's network services. Storage and syncing of your original files follow that service's settings and policies.
Playing imported audio and displaying saved subtitles do not require an internet connection. Downloading speech models or retrieving selected cloud files may separately require a connection.
5. Backups and deletion
Depending on the operating system and your settings, app data may be included in an iCloud or computer backup of your device. Use Apple's features and settings to manage backup storage, restoration, and deletion. Deleting data in the app does not necessarily remove it from existing backups at the same time.
Deleting audio in the app removes it from all folders that reference it and deletes the associated subtitles, text edits, bookmarks, and playback position. It does not delete the original audio file kept in Files or another location.
The operating system's Delete App option removes the app and its local data; Offload App keeps its documents and data. Keep your original audio separately. The operator cannot access data on your device and does not keep a recovery copy.
6. Advertising, analytics, and tracking
The app contains no advertising, usage analytics sent to the operator, or third-party tracking SDKs. It does not track you using advertising identifiers or record study time or achievement statistics. For information handled by the operating system or App Store according to your settings, please refer to Apple's notices.
7. Website hosting
This website is served through Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process your IP address and request information to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for its handling of this information.
The website itself does not set cookies or use analytics, advertising, tracking scripts, or externally hosted fonts. When you follow a link to an external service, that service's policies apply.
8. Policy changes
If features or information practices change, this page and its last-updated date will be revised. Material changes will be communicated in a manner appropriate to the change.
