A LITTLE HELP TO GET STARTED

Guide & FAQ

Import audio from your device and practice by listening again. Find help with playback, subtitles, and your files.

Getting started

  1. Import your audio

Tap + in the app, choose to add files or a folder, then select your audio in Files. If your download is a ZIP archive, unzip it in Files before importing.

  2. Repeat the parts you need

Practice with 3-second skips, playback speed, and bookmarks. To repeat a section, set A at its beginning and B at least 0.5 seconds later.

  3. Create subtitles from audio

On supported devices running iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, select the language spoken in the recording to create subtitles. Keep the app open while it works. Downloading a language model for the first time may require an internet connection.

  4. Organize your practice

Search audio and change its playback order in your library or folders. Add a bookmark and note to a useful phrase so you can return to it later.

Common questions

Which audio can I import?

You can import audio files available through Files that your device can play, including MP3 and M4A. The app cannot extract protected content from music or video streaming services. If a file in iCloud Drive or another provider will not open, finish downloading it in Files, then try again.

Do I need an internet connection?

Imported audio and saved subtitles work offline. A connection may be needed to download a speech language model from Apple or retrieve audio from a cloud provider in Files. If the device later removes a language model, it may need to be downloaded again.

Why is automatic transcription unavailable?

Automatic transcription requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later and a device and language supported by Apple's on-device speech recognition. Audio playback and saved subtitles work on iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. Unsupported recordings are not sent to a cloud recognition service as a fallback. If a model download fails, check your connection and available storage, then retry.

The subtitles contain errors or are out of sync.

Automatic subtitles are a speech recognition result, not an official transcript of your learning material. Select the language actually spoken in the recording. Long-press a sentence to edit its text, or use the timing adjustment to shift all subtitles by up to 10 seconds in either direction. Recreating subtitles replaces saved text edits, so review the confirmation before continuing.

How do section repeat and folder playback work?

Set A and B at least 0.5 seconds apart to repeat that section. Clear the section settings to return to normal playback. Playing from a folder follows that folder's order and normally stops after its final track. You can switch to repeating one track or the whole queue on the player screen.

Does deleting audio also delete my original file?

No. Importing makes a copy, so the original in Files remains. Deleting audio in the app removes it from every folder that contains it, along with its subtitles, text edits, bookmarks, and playback position. Check the items on the confirmation screen before deleting.

Can I transfer my data to a new device or reinstall?

kikuru has no account or its own device sync service. Whether app data is included in a device backup and can be restored depends on the operating system and your backup settings. Offload App keeps its documents and data; Delete App also removes its local data. Keep your original audio separately. The operator cannot restore audio or subtitles stored on your device.

Can I change the interface and subtitle languages?

The interface supports Japanese, English, and Korean, following your device's preferred languages or per-app language setting. Choose the language spoken in your audio separately when creating subtitles. Available recognition languages depend on your device and are not limited to the three interface languages. Subtitles are not automatically translated.
